Sanremo: piazza Colombo, 1949

In the 1950's piazza Colombo was very different to how it is today. A large square open to traffic, occupied the main part and a suggestive barrel, served as a refreshment point. This barrel itself was placed in the centre of the square after the war, on the ruins which the world conflict had brought.
Piazza Colombo has changed over the course of the years, changing from monastery to barracks, to the terminus of the Ospedaletti-Sanremo-Taggia tram, but has always kept a fixed point: to represent the traditional meeting point for all sanremesi. Try to ask someone: see you under the "pine"? See what they will reply.
